For Richard Mille, the association is so striking, because he still vividly remembers, back in 1981, when McLaren was the first constructor to introduce an all-carbon fibre monocoque to Formula 1. It was a technology that would revolutionize the sport. Years later, the brand was able to adopt the same technical solution—a carbon nanofibre structure—for the baseplates.
McLaren Racing has one sole mission: to win Grands Prix and World Championships. To achieve this, the technicians need to constantly design, build and operate Formula 1 cars at race-winning levels. This requires focus, ambition, imagination, dedication and microscopic attention to detail, in a word - excellence. This dedication to technique and design has led the RM brand and McLaren Racing to pursue joint developments.
The first result of their collaboration was the RM 50-03 in 2017. The University of Manchester has collaborated with Richard Mille and McLaren F1 to create world's lightest mechanical chronograph by pairing leading graphene research with precision engineering.
This teamwork will continue to push the limits of haute horlogerie, with Richard Mille’s engineers creating increasingly intricate, innovative and elaborate cutting-edge designs.
